Despite Operation Sindoor being carried out by India on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), incidents of infiltration on the Line of Control (LoC) have not stopped. According to sources, Approximately in the last few weeks, about 45 to 50 terrorists have entered the Indian border from sectors like Uri and Kupwara (Kashmir), Hiranagar (Samba) and Sunderbani (Jammu Division).
According to the information from Sources, these infiltration attempts were carried out by providing cover fire by the Pakistani army to divert the attention of the Indian security forces. The terrorists crossed the border during heavy shelling. On May 8th, 9th,10th, the BSF foiled a major infiltration attempt by killing seven terrorists in Samba. This action was possible due to the vigilant surveillance and technical assistance of the BSF, although some terrorists still succeeded in infiltrating.
At the time of the Pahalgam terror attack, around 140 terrorists were active in Jammu and Kashmir, including 14 local terrorists. Now after infiltration, this number has reached close to 180, which is a matter of concern. 6 (3+3) local terrorists were killed in two counter-terror operations in South Kashmir, but Pakistani terrorists are still hiding in dense forests.
The army has sent small teams of soldiers of anti-fidayeen squad and Special Operations Group (SOG) to these inaccessible areas. Although many experts are saying that there is a need for better coordination among the security forces, but top officials are confident that the situation will come under control with time.
After the death of 26 people (mostly tourists) in the Pahalgam attack on 22 April, India attacked the hideouts of terrorist organizations Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Muridke in Pakistan. This attack took place under Operation Sindoor. After this, India and Pakistan reached the brink of war.
After India's action, intelligence agencies had issued an alert about possible suicide attacks. It was feared that security establishments, Army establishments, temples and river projects could be targeted. Although some officials believe that the situation may get worsen in the next 2-3 months, the terrorists who have infiltrated are trying to enter the other parts of the country. Intel sources claimed that
these terrorists are fully armed, have combat experience and are avoiding contact with local modules, which is a worrying sign.
Few terrorists of The Resistance Front (TRF), the front face of Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba, are still absconding for a month. Apart from this, the terrorists behind half a dozen attacks in Rajouri and Poonch have also not been caught yet. Intelligence agencies sources believe that these terrorists are in different groups and have been sent to wreak havoc in India after receiving training like para-commandos.
Punjab also witnessed a lot of tension during Operation Sindoor. Now the incidents of drone intrusion are increasing continuously. Punjab shares a 553 km long border with Pakistan. According to sources, 50 drone activities were recorded on May 16. On May 17, this number increased to 90, which is the largest single day report so far. 40-50 drones were again seen on May 18-19. Many of these drones were shot down or deactivated, but Pakistan is not stopping its activities. This new strategy is proving to be challenging for the security forces.
